The name is the 'Commercial Series CPS' and it's part# is RVN4191x...where 'x' represents the latest revision...something like 'G' or 'H' now. The latest version number is 5.00.00, I believe.

It even has little pictures of the side buttons so you know what you're programming. An 8-year old could program the radio. heh. That's how easy it is.

One nice thing about that CPS is the reports. It will print out a customer handout with a picture of the radio that shows how the buttons are programmed, and it will even put your company info at the bottom, has a nice professional look.

there's a slight difference in the cable, you can either get an adapter from motorola, or modify your cable. do a search of the forum for cm200 and you should find the details.

I'm just curious. I know you've posted that before, but I haven't seen you say what you find so crappy about it.

i think it's great. As already mentioned, the reports printing & pictures are nice features lacking in other CPS packages. The layout is easy to follow, the 'copy' button in the conventional personalities can save tons of time. The program size is relatively small, so the install is quick & the computer resource use is low.

The only thing that I can think of that I'd like to see changed is the 'expert' and 'basic' modes. The CPS defaults to 'basic' mode, which hides a lot of options. You can change it in options to default to 'expert', but not everyone even realizes this. The basic mode should be gotten rid of as I find it's too limited.

The split-screen is a PITA. You have to keep scrolling left-right when enterinf frequencies.
The scan programming leaves alot to be desired, also.

Why in the hell would they make this software like this when all of the other modern radios' sofwares (Waris, Astro, MCS) are set up similar to each other and are convenient to use?

Yes- an 8 year old kid can use it, but 8 year old kids aren't using it.
This software is something that I'd expect to see from ICOM for a consumer-grade ham radio. Then again, this radio isn't much more than a cheapo basic unit.

Yeah, I'll agree with that to a point, although you can resize the left-hand side to virtually eliminate left-right scrolling & still be able to navigate the different menus no problem. If you have a larger screen & use a higher resolution, it's not a problem at all.

Meh, we all have our preferences. A lot of people out there think any CPS sucks simply because it's not DOS.

One thing Moto could have allowed [unless I'm overlooking it] is naming the "personalities". They allowed "Talk Group" naming so it would follow they should have allowed personality naming.

It would be nice to name the individual "personalities" rather than seeing only "pers 01, 02....64" in the display.

With the 64 channel PM-400, it gets difficult without a score card to keep track of what frequency pairs ended up in which personality.

Please, if anyone knows a way through the RSS to change the names, kindly let me know. My ragged cheat sheet is getting unreadable.

Straight out of the HELP files:

Renaming
Signaling Systems, Personalities, Phone Systems, Call Systems, Sites, Repeaters, Talk Groups, and Universal ID's can all be renamed.

Highlight the item to be renamed in the tree view.

From the Edit menu choose Rename, or, right mouse click and choose Rename.

Rename the item.

Notes

A maximum of 8 characters is allowed. Valid characters are A-Z a-z 123456789 \ # < > * + _ / -

No problem at all.

Todd,

Many thanks. I was trying to rename in the "right" frame while programming frequencies.

I never thought to move over to the left frame.

I'll give it a try tonight. HELP files do work once in a while. I'll try them next time around.
