do anybody know if the internal speaker can be turned off and on?

Yes- by unplugging it from the head's PCB.

Plugging in an external one does NOT disable the internal speaker.

Yes the internal speaker can be muted....you would program one of the unused I/O pins on the accessory connector for rx audio mute [input]and program another for aux control [output] using toggle mode. Then by connecting the two pins that you programmed above, the internal speaker can be muted by pushing the button(P1 - P4) that you programmed for aux control. Pushing the same button again unmutes the rx audio.

That also will mute 1/16 external audio

...i stand corrected! guess i just never heard the headunit speaker when the loud as hell speakers are plugged in
