VX900 setup cost...

As a package about $90, maybe a bit less. The dealers will usually include the software at no cost to you. Vertex is very laid back about it, unlike you-know-who.

The 900 software is, or was, available in both DOS and Windows, and both of them work well. The graphics version is a little bit more intuitive, in my opinion, and that's what I'm using these days. It's also fast.

I notice a lot of Vertex portables don't have coverage below 148Mhz and 450MHz, do you think they do this on purpose to keep amateurs away from their radios?

I don't think so, but then again, I don't work at Vertex.

As Tom in D.C. will attest, at the least, the VX600/900 will do ham bands quite easily. I have them and they're just fine there.

Whether Vertex is doing it because they're the same company that produces Yaesu gear ...that's what I would be inclined to think.

What I'm concerned about is how high a 450-490 version will go. We've got two freqs, 500.xxx and 501.xxx that we need in the radios. Anyone gotten a VX900 working that high?
