ASTRO MDC ID Display ?'s

Post by isp94 »

I am trying to enable the MDC ID recieve feature (MDC ID on the display) on my VHF Astro Saber II.
What has to be enabled in the RSS to make this feature work? I am using DOS ver. 08.00 RSS. I remember Elroy has touched on this issue in the past. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Go to Radio Wide Display Options [F4] [F3] [F6]

At the bottom of the screen on the function key bar F7 should say "PTT ID"

If it does - then push [F7] to go to where you set it up.

If it doesn't say that, you probably don't have that feature. Run your flash code through the Batlabs decoder link. (you need option H14)

I don't know exactly where in the RSS but in the CPS that I got to play with a little at Dayton there was a field that said "End of Voice Timer" that is measured in seconds and you can set how long the ID is displayed for. I have mine set for 4 or 5 seconds and it works nicely. I don't beleive you can put aliases to the ID's but at least you can see the ID that just called you. But in order for this to work you have to have MDC enabled on that personality with a PTT ID. Hope that helps....

I have the mdc-id display working on my xts-3000, they come up with no problem. What I want to do and have seen it on some astro sabers, is have the astro unit id's come up when monitoring an astro channel. Still have not been able to do it. Any help would be appreciated. My radio is h14 flashed digital id display.

I currently have my settings at
ID display: enabled
Scan ID display: enabled
end of voice timer: 7 sec
Manual channel change timer: 7 sec
number of prefix characters: 4 won't go any higher
This is what I have and it won't display id's in astro mode.

Thanks

Your radio might not be flashed with Digital ID Display then. I beleive that is what is needed to make that work in Astro mode.

you guys are missing ONE KEY FACTOR!!!!!, to decode digital ID in DIGITAL you MUST, have the Networking ID of that freq you are decoding, say you put you astro in digital CSO when you do that the standard networking id switches over if I remember 293? cant remember but that is like default when you go digital CSQ, and if somebody eles goes to that to, and they key up, bammm it decodes the ID.

So mostly if your decoding LAPD, put there RX networking ID in, have your PTT ID to 6 or 4, and program the radoi and it should work then, cause you guys have not mention the Networking ID yet

Dale,
You are correct about the default networking id being 293.
I am not monitoring LAPD but another IMBE system. My radio is in digital carrier squelch mode, but I have no idea what the networking id is. From what I gather from your post, if I got the network id, then it should decode id's even in carrier squlech mode.
Thanks for your help, and I will try to obtain that info, although it will be difficult.

Thats pretty much it, just have to have there Networking ID, just put it in the RX, and it should start decoding if not, it will not decode and will not come through squelch too if you dont have it open tone, but goodluck on finding that RX tone hehe, acutally you can always call that department and ask ther Tech, cause usually I notice from all department I been monitoring that they have sperate networking ID, so usually wont hurt to just have the RX networking ID, but like I said, goodluck, and it is fun to watch the ID pop up heheh.
