I have a booklet covering the 'competitive equipment report' of the Saber radio against the G.E M-PD portable.

This booklet was published in November, 1987.

Also stated this is for: Motorola Internal Use Only.

This booklet is 10 single sided pages with pictures depicting both radios in side by side comparison.

Interesting reading regardless......

Promo materials are usually produced a year or more before actual product release so the literature is on the dealer's shelves by the time the product is shipped.

Even so, I would think it safe to say that the Saber was made around the mid to late 80's.

What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

The oldest Saber that I've seen at my repair bench had a June of 87 serial #.
