Upgrading Astro Saber I to II

Post by hycheng »

This is the first time I got my hand on an Astro Saber, I thought it was a Astro Saber I but when I opened the chasis, I found the top plate has the key pads but no display. This leads me to start thinking is it possible to upgrade the Astro Saber I to II or III by adding the display and firmware like the regular Saber's ? What other hardware part is needed ? How to upgrade the firmware ?
Thanks in advanced.

What radios do you own?: XTS5000R, Astro Saber III, I

I believe that Elroy said, some time ago, that in order to change the Astro saber to a II or III, one needs to have their radio FLASHED to do so. And in order to have a flash upgrade, you have to go directly to Motorola, which is not an easy task. (for the common end user)

Buying a model III case is cheap - over $100. The missing LCD display costs about $300. This is the cheap part. Reflashing it for model III operation will break the bank.

I have converted many Astrosaber 1's to 3's. I usually use Astro lab to create the 3 codeplug then add the front panel to the 1 put it in the 3 case and program it up with lab. I have had no problems doing this and the radios always seem to work fine , of course they never will be real radios only hack jobs and can only be sold a so.

Thanks Frank,
So there is a ray of hope. Any chance you have a display to spare ?
