HELP with some @#%$!% P110s

Post by mavericknet »

I've been trying to reprogram about seven or so Radius P110 radios model (P44QLC20D2AA) from my ambulance company, they gave the software the laptop, everything. Every time I go to read a code plug it comes up with an error number 21, radio not supported. Now I've tried this with three diffrent RSS version that their "great dealer" said would work no problem. GP 300 7.00.00, GP 300 5.03.00, and just for S & G I used the GP 300/ 350 RSS ver. 3.0 and that didn't work either. I'm in a bind here I need to get these radios reprogrammed and out because my town won't fix the public safety repeater and its shot. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if I seem agitated but this is really getting on my nerves.

Hi:

Well, either your Radios are [ Too new ] for the
Radio Service Software you have, OR there may
be a different problem altogether

Anyhow Ver 8.00.04 is a fairly late version RSS for the P110
all by itself, or Ver 5.03.00 which is GP300 Software has the
support for the P110's as well

Take a look at the back of the Radio, and in the
upper right corner, there is a code date like 9426
which woud be the 26th week of 1994

That error code is typical of Early Software
for a late vintage ( or different radio )

And / Or the Serial Number would help.

With that information so long as the Radios have
not been hacked , you should be able to address them

I would strongly recommend the use of the Factory
programmimg ass'y or a well made clone, as if you
use the Nip-Clip approch you may end up with a dead
radio,

A good stable Program Platform is a must !

Email me direct if you would like some more
information on the series...here too is OK if
you want to share your experiences

Code, and some more grumble

Post by mavericknet »

This radio is actually dated, 96/10/18 (October 18, 1996 I would assume). We got the software almost a full year ago because we filed for a new private channel (b/s and coffee) and we wanted to be able to change them (over and over again, any dealer we've send out to have always come back not working right). Well the private channel was no big concern so it just never got into the radios, all of the sudden the town wide public safety repeater took a crap (pardon my intentional language). The town board is crying money in replacing, so we have to deal, suddenly every radio had to be switched because were gonna pirate off the brand new highway department repeater (go figure, more money towards pothole patrol than V&T and ambulance service) Anyway, went to go work on these radios and I got this, and believe me I got people breathing down my neck, maxtracs in the trucks were done nearly a month ago. However, I went back to the dealer they got the RSS from and they said we were on our own because they can't deal in RSS anymore. I just need to figure why this isn't working I used some pretty new RSS (7.00.00) (fire department had it and I lent them a radio to try). It gave them the same thing, it's a factory cable (amazing the dealer got that right). Anyway, I need to get these things out. Anymore help would be much appreciated.

HI:

According to [ My Book ] P110 Version 8.00.03 should
indeed work just fine.

The others, well, it all depends on the Firmware
of whats inside the radio.

I would urge you to aquire the P110 RSS as mentioned
above

One other thought comes to mind. The local fire department here has some VHF P110 radios. They are of the 16 channel version. Couldn't program them until I talked with the shop that sold them. He had a different version of the software for those 16 channel VHF units.

I had the same problem with a later-vintage 8-channel UHF P110. My impression is that the model wasn't added to the RSS until the last version before Moto split off the GP300. You're probably in the same boat. I'd follow Monty's suggested version.

What probably is happening is that the 16 channel radios were hacked to 16 and the "special software" is a hacked version. likely your problem radios have been hacked also and thats why no normal rss will read them.
Thats why I would never give out a hacked radio for use by someone other than myself. Now if yours are hacked and out in the public sector
someone has just been hosed sorry to say. Phrawg

I don't even know where these radios came from

Post by mavericknet »

These things have been around since they were knew, and every time our officers change they get a great new idea on which dealer we should go to for our radios. So far we only get screwed on the service after we get them.

Back as far as 1993 the P110 was no longer supported in the GP300 and now GP300/350 RSS, the P110 has had it's own RSS since 94. Any version after 94 (for P110) should work unless, as others have eluded to, they have been hacked. AND a lot of P110's have been hacked. Dealers would buy two chann radios, hack them and sell them as 6, 10 chan. ect;; some even turned up as GP300's!!
So it appears that someone has "hosed" you on the software.

This "might" help... If the radios have been hacked, try getting ahold of Tool Kit (mentioned on BatLabs, but you will have to find it on your own). I've used it and have been able to convert many P110 (4 and 6 channels) to 16 Channel. This was needed in order to gain the scan feature.

If your radios are (now) 8 or 16 Channels, that might be a clue. Also, check the product model number against the Batlabs info to confirm the "original" radio state:

http://www.batlabs.com/gp300.html

Question... I was under the impression that P110's only came from /\/\ with a max of 6 channels? But could be hacked to as many as 16 channels.

The P110 people on this board could confirm that...

Hope this helps...

P110's can come in up to 16 channels, direct from the factory. His original post indicated he tried three different GP300/350 RSS versions, none of which will program the P110 unless it hasn't been programmed with a later version P110-only in nearly 9 years...unlikely. Version 7.00.00 is several years old as well. He simply needs to either find a dealer with the latest P110 RSS version (8.00.03), or purchase it legally himself, which he can judging by one of his posts. Don't point him to things like toolkit unless it's clear it was hacked, which I haven't seen any evidence of yet.

Late in the run P-110's were available in 16 channels, however the 16 ch.
escutcheon never was set up for availabilty thru APD. A trick I once saw
used for error 21 was hacking it into a 16 ch. GP-300 and though it wouldn't go to 16 due to the 1-2-1-2-1-2 channelizing the radio now would
accept programming. There also was a trick on batlabs a while back which
I no longer see under P110 model specific info. it was a hack to allow
cloning between different radio versions, perhaps this hack if anyone recalls it might also take care of error 21.

Getting new RSS is questionable

Post by mavericknet »

Last time my department got RSS it was through a dealer, but now the same dealer won't even talk about selling us RSS. I'm sure all I have to do is call Motorola, stay on hold for six hours and talk to three supervisor to get the correct one. I'm still ticked that dealer sold us the wrong RSS. Since then all mods are done in house, the only thing that goes out are physically damaged radios and Min II pagers.

Dealers are NOT allowed to resell RSS!! They "sold" you the latest version they had, and it wasn't legally. For gosh sakes, find another dealer. Also, authorized dealers are obligated to support your radios with the latest version of RSS available if need be, so get on their case about it. They should certainly be willing to do so, since you could blow the whistle on them about selling you the RSS.

I think it was legit

Post by mavericknet »

It was at least a year ago, the stuff came in original moto boxes, sealed with all the books and cables. It was only five months ago I heard that dealers weren't selling RSS anymore because moto wanted to license direct. I have a new dealer I work with, and they informed me that as long as I want to box up the radios and not see them for a week they'd be happy to do support (paid for the off-warranty radios). The local dealer we have here would just sit, and sit, and sit on our radios if we saw them in a month we considered ourselves lucky.

That's the misunderstanding....dealers have NEVER been allowed to sell the RSS...it's always been available only from Motorola direct. If it was in Motorola boxes, it was either sitting around for a loooong time, or they re-packaged it themselves. 6-year old RSS simply doesn't get shipped from Motorola.

It is clear that the "dealer" sold you one of the upgrade RSS versions they did not use or, like others have said, laying arround. This is very illeagal, and Motorola will cancel there Software License and can reclaim their (Motorola's) software at any time.

If you were within 200 miles, I would be glad to drive out and change the programming in your radios at your conveinence and at your place. And you may watch, and I will verify the radio is up to factory specs. too. I consider that part of programming. You by the pizzas.

Hi;

What is very clear here is the poor customer
got the shaft from a [ So Called Dealer ] ( period )

In short:

Motorola licenses the Radio Service Software
from Motorola ( Period ) No Exceptions, and is
completed by filling out the license Kit.

P110s' are in fact a Pretty Nice radio, but can easily
be tuned into trash by un-qualified Service
Personnel or shop.

There are [ MANY ] Qualified Persons on this board !

Take the advice, if needed, send the radios in, have
them evaluated, and then deal with that person.

I am more than happy to extend our services [Evaluation]
of your radios for Free if you wish, and if you have
the original invoices, sometimes you can recover
some of the Monies you have paid out ( Lost ) to a Service
Shop / or person(s) if they have modified your radios
without your consent and / or knowledge.

Motorola in Schamberg would love to hear about it.

I would be especially interested in what the Model
number is for a Factory UHF / VHF 16 Ch. P110

Big problems are taxing the Professional Service
Industry with { These Practices } and has long term
negitive effects !

P110 146-174 16 channels= P43QLC20C2-A
All the other bandsplits/channel spacings follow the normal format with
'C' as the 16 channel designator. Guess it was an afterthought as 'D' was
for 8 ch. radios.

Sound's like everyone else on this board is saying it may inded have been hacked...

Of course the only way we might know for sure is by the radio's model number. Unless that was removed...

I stand by my statement. Not saying it hasn't been hacked, but until a read/write with the latest PROPER RSS is tried (his posts indicate it definitely hasn't), you shouldn't assume it's been hacked. If that doesn't work, then it's something to look into.
