Help with programing
I was reading some where the other day what speed computer work go with programing motorola radios.
Hi:
If you are a beginner, I would strongly urge you
to use a 386-486-25 Series Computer with DOS 6.22
[ Only ] as a operating system.
[ IF ] and Only IF you are using Windows Based Programs
like the MTS2000 / CDM / Pro Series, you can safely use
Windows and perhaps a pentium class computer
I still use a 486-25 which is a [ Dedicated ] Computer
for Motorola Programming.
What [ IS ] important, is the computer be VERY STABLE,
as if there should be [ Anything ] that goes wrong in the
Write Process when programming late Model Motorola
Radios, you will end up with a Brick.
Highly recommended you use a Factory Rib Box, Use Caution
when using Clone Ribs, have a Dual Power Support for the
Rib, Radio, and Computer in case of a power glich
Clone Cables are OK if built very well, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
try and use [ NIP CLIPS ] or [ Rubber Bands ] to hold the wires
to the program contacts.
The Rib to Radio Contacts MUST be seated properly and NEVER
turn the Radio off during the Program Process.

Monty is right !
Be careful - Ask the pros first, this board has many just waiting to help.
I just purchased for our FD an assortment of special cables and a new Motorola RIB box, and other hardware items from Monty, and could not be more pleased. I recommend him as a great source and am sure there are others here too.
We are also having some special work done on our portables by Monty for our Fire Dept. He is fast efficient and so very knowledgeable.
Cheers,
Ra
