Can you believe this one!!!
I just got off the phone with Motorola parts. I NEED to purchase Astro CPS version 10.0.4 or at least 10.0.3. becuase I just bought an Astro Saber and it was originally programmed with that version and now my RSS is too old. Anyway, they told me that it would take at least 2 weeks for me to even be able to purchase the software! You see, first I have to give them my contact info so that someone in their customer service dept can LATER contact me. Next they mail me a licence agreement. Then I mail that back signed. Then they investigate me. Then they make a final decision! Then I am ALLOWED to purchase CPS!!! I can't believe this its easier to purchase a gun!!!!!
Then the nerve of them, they want $250.00 for the CPS to program their own radios! After what they get for their radios they should supply the CPS for free.
Now I am stuck with a radio that I can't use because me software is too old and I don't have an old codeplug either!
Sorry about the venting!

Sounds right. You want the software, you have to play their game.
$250 is what it costs to get it period. Yes, it's a lot of money, but you also get a subscription that leaves you with having the most up to date software. You'll have issues getting your contact approved if there are other dealers in the area that you could have your radio programmed by. I suggest if you need it done faster, that might be a good route to go.
Also, the latest greatest Astro CPS is 9.0.4, not 10.x.x. They aren't there *yet*.

New software!
Johngo1
The software is going to cost you about $265 plus tax and shipping.
You will get 3 years of software updates with your subscription.
Now that's not a bad deal if you think about it.

Re: New software!
You get a lot more support from Motorola than you would Microsoft! How much is a single user license copy of XP professional and how much support do you get?MRFLASHPORT wrote:Johngo1

265.00 doesn't seem bad at all.

I have the exact same problem...i'm not just saying sh#t either,
I bought a new MCS2000 and had it programmed by the Motorola dealer and they f#cked it up and they wanted me to pay for it to be programmed again.... so i told them where they can shove it and now i have a radio programmed with frequencies that i can only recieve on and signalling protocols that don't even register......
Join the club and i hope one day Motorola will go bankrupt and then all their radios will be dirt cheap but until that day we must live under the rule of the BIG M.
Don't get me wrong...since the first time i bought a motorola i was in love with the amazing craftmanship and the stunning design and features but it all costs too much...i mean toooooo much esspecially over here in Australia where all our motorola stuff gets sent to the US and the US$ is x2 what the AUS$ is.

Not a bad deal BUT.......
$275 for software and 3 years of upgrades is not a bad deal at all. Its actually pretty good, BUT. The problem is that they make you run around faxing and mailing agreements, they investigate you, then they decide if they sell to you. That is stupid, all I want to do is prog a radio. If I want to buy Windows XP I go to CompUsa pay and then regiter it. Thats it, very simple. Motorola takes two weeks to even decide.

Buying RSS from /\/\...
About three years ago, which was a year before I retired, I wanted to license and obtain the GP300/GP350 RSS from Motorola for company use. I got tired of having to take the radios to the dealer's shop every time we got a new one, or needed a scanning setup change, or needed to add a customer's channel to use on a job site. Well, between the learning curve for my purchasing agent, the turnaround delays in getting the license agreement signed, the payment approval, and other miscellaneous delays, it took about eight weeks to get the whole project completed and get the book and diskette to me, on my desk, ready to use.
A lot of the time required was caused by Motorola, but it was far from all of it; my guys did their part as well.
As best I can recall the cost was maybe around $275.00.
I like the RSS approach which the Vertex dealers take, which is something like, "What's your e-mail address?" Much faster, God knows a lot cheaper, and the RSS AND THE RADIOS work just as well, IMHO, as the Motorolas.

I signed the license agreement and got my software for the xts3000 in like two days or so it was fast and not even as bad as i thought it would have been they game me no problem at all what so over I paid $375.00 bucks for that sofware wich was a hard hit but the service and quick shipping was worth it in my book.
