Can anyone explain DES/DVP/ASTRO???

I have a radio with DVP/DES/ASTRO installed i have not been able to figure out hout to set it.
Do i need a certain encryption key or something as i have accidentally deleted it when i pressed the emergency button and another button at the same time.
I was wondering if someone could explain it to me????
Does DVP/DES need an special encryption key to listen to other DES/DVP transmissions or can i just enable the channel as a DES/DVP channel and i will be able to decrypt it......and is it the same with astro.
Sorry for all the questions.
I have just been given the task to inform the Board of directors of the new modes of encryption and how they are to be programmed in our radios by the way they are Astro Saber III 403-450 (austr-asian model)
I have been only incharge of the repeaters in the past and now i need to be taught about the radios.
Any help will be much appreciated.

By the way how will i be ab;e to find out an exisiting DES/DVP code???? is there some way i can put a common code which decrypts them all or is there any other way????
I am only used to conventional systems
