Question: Astro Spectra W9 head similar to Conventional A9?

Post by seleong »

Question:

Can a conventional Spectra A9 control head be converted to an Astro Spectra W9 control head by changing the firmware chip?

I was told that the converse was tried (Astro W9 changed to Conventional A9) just as an experiment and it seemed to work...

Any truth to this idea?

Thanks!

I haven't tried actually swapping the chip, as I only have one W9 head, but I compared the part numbers for the boards and they both (W9 and A9) seem to jive.

Btw, the A9 head I checked was a 1073 head.

From what I understand if you have a 1073 head (and that number is off the top of my head) you can indeed swap the firmware chips, reprogram, and go nuts. Do some searching and you should find a thread in the astro forum about it.
