Will it work question for technical guru's

Post by midstate33 »

 Can this work? If we have a VHF base connected to another VHF base via a UHF link all units being analog we know this works fine, NOW
if we turn the UHF link into a digital radio can this be done without anymore interfacing or problems that require special equipment...Let clarify this.......an analog VHF base connected to another VHF analog base
via a UHF digital radio link......Will it work????

Your thoughts & info appreciated....Farkle!!!! :D

Digital link

Post by Hartley »

Hi,

Yes, it should - BUT - keep in mind the digital link probably won't pass anything but voice - no DTMF, paging tones, etc.. (yes, it will pass something, but it won't be usable). Yes, there are ways to pass this stuff, but it probably isn't cost effective.

The digital radios will add a little delay.

What radios do you own?: Kenwood, Yaesu, ICOM, Motorola

If your UHF Link Radios are Subscriber units, then YES it can be accomplished but add Delay Time for Re-Clocking of the Data.

If your UHF Link Radios are Quantar Base Stations, then YES it can be accomplished but add 2 DIU3000s, more $$$$$$$$ and the Delay Time for Re-Clocking of the Data.
