What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

Programming error...

1. Are you using pure DOS and NOT the phony DOS that runs
under Windows? You MUST boot with DOS 6.22 with a DOS RSS to have the RSS run properly.

2. What speed is the computer you're using? If it's anything
faster than a 486 you may find that to be cause of the problem.

3. Can you READ the radio to start with? If you can then stick
with that RSS version.

4. What kind of RIB are you using?

Make a post with answers to the above and we'll take it from
there.

has a windows based software (CPS) been used on this radio?

Thanks for the reply,
In answer to question 1 running under dos from win98 not pure dos,
q2 the computer is a 586
And no I cant read the radio either
however I can programe mtx 838 and mts 2000 with no hassells under the same setup and could read the radio for a short time with this setup
the rib is a motorola 4008b with a cable tried and tested on another radio.
I hope this helps you help me .
I am about to write a new config sys file and autoexe bat file to see if that helps

Peter:

The so-called DOS that runs under Windows does not set up
the computer's serial port correctly and won't allow your RSS
to run properly. That might be the answer to the problem
you're having. If you do a search on this board for various
terms related to this you'll find a ton of material that covers
this matter in more detail.

You can download DOS 6.22 for free. I forget the name of
the download site but it's also shown via a search here.

For Windows 98SE computers, go into the 'C:\windows' directory & find the "MS-DOS mode for games with EMS & XMS support" icon. Copy this onto your desktop for easy access. Now, double-click it & your computer will re-boot into the proper DOS mode for radio programming. See if the error still occurs.

I don't suspect computer speed to be an issue with the MCS software, especially where you can read/write MTX/MTS radios with no issues.

Did you try the cable on another MCS2000 radio, or was it perhaps a Maxtrax style radio? The programming cables are different.

Normally, as long as the software can establish communications with the radio, you will not get 'protocol entry errors' & such...it'll usually just say "codeplug too new" if it's a version conflict. This is why I suspect the cable.

OK Todd,
I have tried your method and thiese are the error messages I now getin RSS 5.7 I get a Cannot aquire busy line error
and using MTSXLAB depot I get Bus data collision on TX error
Now before going any futher I must say that this radio has no external codeplug loaded and when I can see the radio (very briefly) its shows as none in memory
I have used the cable from RIB to 25 pin and the cable from RIB to Mic both cable talk to a GM 2100 ok and are made from ythe diagramme at Batwing in model specific info
I and borrowing on of the other radios from the bunch thaty where bought on Sunday and will give it a go as it is a known goer
Thanks and Regards
