ASTRO 25 TRUNKING flash upgrade

Post by CHEFA2001 »

Does anyone know the cost for this option to be flashed?

I don't have a problem getting the radio flashed, I just want to know how much it will cost. Easier than making ten calls to the rep.

if you have the ability to order under some sort of pre-negotiated contract (i.e. state or local) the price will be a bit lower.

but, for us minions...

it's $685.00

that's just trunking, not IMBE.

IMBE + trunking (i.e. to turn an astro-ready radio into a blown portable) is about $1500-$1700 depending on the contact.

If you're talking about FULL ASTRO Project 25 digital trunking,
with 9600 baud control channel, not analog at all, then you can pretty much forget about that one via any "normal" channel. That's an option that is very restricted and is not available for purchase via the usual sales reps unless the purchase is closely associated with an Astro 25 system user. In essence, the system administrator would have to be the one to send in the request.

That's what I gather on it, anyway.

FLASH

Post by CHEFA2001 »

HI, the radio is already CAI compliant, just need the p25 trunking option added, I do not have any problem getting a flash upgrade, as I have in the past, but just wanted to know a decent bit of info before I make the request, thats all.

Where ya been Elroy, I feel like its summer vacation, since you haven't been teaching recently....

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Our PD is paying 635 for IMBE to be in the new radios, and I believe its going to cost us about 685 per radio for IMBE to be flashed into our "astro ready" XTS's.

Come to find out, most of the little options are around $100 (advanced MDC, Digital ID etc).

Listening to our Moto rep for our new stuff, its really buy now or pay a lot more later. Its pretty slick. Cost goes up like 15-20%.

Hi again.

I've just been in a non-radio-related mood for a while. A mild
case of temporary burnout, or at least a scorch-out, anyway.
It happens from time to time.

Let me say it again: Getting the P25 trunking option is going to
be virtually impossible unless you get a system administrator or
other authority associated with an active P25 system to "sponsor"
your radio.

Also, and this is important:

P25 trunking is NOT CAI TRUNKING. When you have P25 trunking
installed in an Astro Saber or XTS-3000, YOU WILL LOSE SOME
OTHER CAPABILITIES. I can't remember precisely if you lose analog trunking capacity or you lose CAI mode trunking, but you WILL lose one of the two. I THINK you lose all analog capacity in trunking mode.

I haven't been able to demonstrate this for myself since I've never
got my hands on a full P25 flashed radio, but that's what I've
been told by some Very Smart People With Experience.

This issue arises because, quite frankly, 1 meg flash memory isn't enough for P25 and everything else at once.

This issue should not affect any of the new generation radios with
the 8MB flash memory, like the XTS-5000.
