Where did you get that radio from? Are you a Motorola factory employee?

First thought that comes to mind for a mobile is programming a key in the radio for "light" or setting the backlight to always on... Probably find it in Radio Wide or Display and Menu in CPS.

I am not a Motorola employee .
That is no "light" key in CPS, it's only has a "Dim" key at programme buttons manual and a "COLR" key at "Display & Manu" manual. But this 2 key no function to light up the display backlight ... :x :-?

Yeah, where the hell did that come from? Are you the Motorola Police? Do you work for Pat Harrington?

Code 4 here pal.

I believe those heads are out on the market now, as I've programmed a few XTL2500's with them for various agencies undercover units.

Thou must thinkest before thou speak... You gonna come over here from whichever country you're from and conduct an investigation?

*Bwoooooooooooop*.... Pull it over A**hole!

As far as the backlight is concerned, make sure you've got a button or menu item programmed for DIM or LIGHT (can't remember which it is).

You can also program the brightness at which the unit starts up at. It may be set to start up with the backlight OFF. I don't recall where in CPS this is, but if you poke through Radio Configuration, I'm sure you'll find the culprit is the default backlight setting.

Having the default backlight set to OFF and no DIM/LIGHT button on the control head = dark control head all the time.

FWIW, these O3 units are pretty nifty.... VERY nice. Reminds me a bit of the iDEN i1000 units, but a lot nicer and much more rugged... A very cool unit.

I don't know if this will be of any help. This is from a manual I have for a HHCH. It may not be the model you are looking for as it is for the W3 and a spectra radio. Anyway here is the paragraph from the manual.

Display Light
Press the light button (the default is side button 1) to toggle the radio
display and keypad backlighting on/off. The Control Head is shipped
from the factory with the backlighting in the ON condition.

I don't deal with these. Only installed one for a commander and then the new commander wanted it removed. It seems that, in this model, one of the programmable buttons can be used to turn the light on and off. Once it is on it may not return to that states when power is cycled. If not then you might try "save dim state" in the advanced menu for the diaplay and see if that keeps it on.

This radio use with the O5 control head is normal,it can light up the backlight, and can change the backlight's color. All the control head test was passed. But use the O3 HHCH, it is no control head test function. Why?
Because this radio can use both of O5 CONTROL HEAD and O3 HHCH ..

Why........why.....? How to solve it ? Thanks.. :( :(

I can not programe the light button for the side button, because the CPS no "light" button can programe, it only have the "Dim" button, I was programed at side button, but press it ,no function on it...

You mentioned using a O5 head. Was this radio shipped from the factory as a O3/HHCH radio, or are you trying to make an O5 radio into a O3 radio?

I am still a little confused as to the difference between the 03/05 heads and the A4/A5 specifications etc. I need to learn a little more, with this sites help, but these are my thoughts.

Even though the radio says it can use the 03 and 05 head it may not be able to switch between both. I have read, somewhere on this site, that a control head change requires the proper firmware. As PJ eluded to your radio may have the firmware for an 05 head and not be able to use the HHCH. As you mentioned you ahve no way to program the light button but you show a dim button. The dim button is common to the 05/07 heads?

Hope this helps.

(taken from radioref) Not the original posters actual radio, but to give a visial reference as to what the thing looks like. Looks like it's based of the xts4k platform.
