Questions on XTS3K parts

Post by fogster »

I've been toying with picking up a cheap XTS3000, but had some questions on what it'd cost to fix them.

What should I expect to pay for a replacement LCD? I'm fine with something used, if it's realistic to assume I can find one. Is this something I'm likely to be able to find from a member here for $20 used, or should I budget the $200+ that I seem to recall MOL wants?

And, for that matter, how about a whole replacement case? One of the ones I'm watching has seen better days. Are these easy to come by?

I've heard mention of 4000 mAh batteries. Do they make them for the XTS3K, or was that just XTS5K? (Or are the batteries interchangeable between the two?)

I should clarify, BTW, that right now I'm just wondering how much to budget for the radio knowing that it'll need some repairs. I'm not looking for offers!

The new LCDs list for $95. You will need to have current firmware for them to work. I doubt you'll find any NOS old-style LCDs that are firmware independent, however you may be able to find some DOA radios with functioning displays to cannibalize. The firmware issue has been discussed at length here in the Astro forum.

Housings will run you from $50-$300 depending on new/used, with/without electronics and seller location.

XTS5000 and XTS3000 batteries are interchangeable.

That should pretty much cover it.

I ended up missing the auction, where the radio went for $251 :(

Anyone know if they're still performing 'free' flash upgrades if you buy the new LCD?
