XTS 5000 Conversion Question

Post by unlisted »

Is it possible to convert a XTS5000 mod 2 to a mod 3 with FFP?

If it is, what parts are needed, including prices? Also, anything else?

Thanks for the response.

To my knowledge, noone has claimed to have hacked the 5k yet, and I don't believe Mother M will do a model upgrade.

The mere fact that XTS5000's are availabe with both FPP options should be proof enough that they've been hacked. Although, those who can do it are certainly not going to talk about it. I sure wouldn't anyway.

To make a Model II 5k into a Model III with FPP, firstly you'd need a Model III case with keypad and all that business. Then you'd need a Model III codeplug. You'd also need firmware capable of FPP. You'd also need an FPP flashcode.

The case is the easy part, but the firmware/flashcode/codeplug things are going to be next to impossible to find. Considering you can get an FPP 5k for under $2,000 these days, you might be better off financially to sell what you have and buy a new one with the goodies you want.
