CDM1250 Audio Over Internet

Post by panthersvolfd »

Hello Friends,

I would like to know if there is a way to connect a CDM1250 to the Computer Audio In so the audio can be transmitted over the internet or over a network. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Regards,

If you just want to stream the audio to the net you can just program the radio for filtered receive audio and route that audio from pin 11 to the line in on your sound card. Then just use a media encoder like Winamp, Simplecast or Windows media encoder and stream it to a server. You can host your own server like Shoutcat or Icecast or use a free hosting service. I believe Windows media has a built in server and might be the easiest route.

Simplecast is a great tool. I have used it on some ip steams. It does have a bit of a delay, anywhere from 30sec to 1.5 min. As far as the CDM just tap into a remote speaker with a 2.5mm female plug, then a double male cable from rad-shack to your pc. We have done this for station alerting over a P.A.

The delay is from the server, not the encoder (Simplecast). I only have a 10sec delay when streaming to my Icecast server.

If you are the only person needing to listen you can use Skype and set it for auto answer. That will give you real time audio with next to no audio delay. This is what I use to remote my BC796D from home along with a few other applications to make the serial port visible across the net.

If your going to hook up to the External speaker output on the CDM i would use an Audio isolation transformer to isolate the CDM Radio from the computer sound card. You can pick one of these up at Rat Shack also there not very expensive. I have several Gm300 radio's hooked up this way through a transformer.

Could pin 11 be used on a Spectra to do this? I guess I could use 6 & 7, but then the audio to the computer will be altered everytime the volume on the radio is changed. I'm trying to avoid that.
