Yes, the 4F1E is the whore trademark.

The first clue....Analog DSP. Motorola would not send out a radio from the factory with a digital flash and analog firmware.

Now if you want the latest and greatest there are those here on the board that can give you a firmware upgrade to digital firmware and you will have a radio that functions in IMBE.

Enjoy your radio, the Astro Saber is one of the better built Motorola radios.

A legit firmware uplift from Motorola runs about $75. Finding someone who can/will do it is another story.

not only the firmware needs a uplift, but the DSP also needs to be replaced as it is analog only. You are looking to spend at least couple hundred dollars in "uplifting" the radio, not to mention you will get a lot of questions when mother M sees the 4F1E flashcode in a analog DSP radio.

My advice: take that money and buy a digital radio instead, they run pretty cheap nowadays.

Upgrading the host also upgrades the DSP, if its a digital flash.

There are no hardware changes.

It really depends. You can get one for $250-$350 or so with IMBE and a Basic flash off eBay almost any day of the week now since the market has been flooded with Astro Sabers. YMMV.

It is not that hard to have that one upgraded with digital firmware. If you already own it, keep it. If not you may want to look around.
