MTS2000 Programming Question

Post by thomas75 »

I've come across a spare MTS2000 UHF Radio. It will not read with any RSS. It goes through the "SELFTEST" when it is turned on, then it makes a funny bleep noise and the screen goes blank and the TX/RX light glows green. Is there are way to make this radio usable again or is it just as well to keep it for the parts (case, knobs, etc.)

Sounds like you have a radio that has been inhibited by a system administrator. Most likely stolen.......

They can be uninhibited by the same system administrator that had it inhibited in the first place.

I was told by the previous owner that it was a mess up with LAB Software and wrong codeplug. It did work before that. However. Well, I guess I have some good parts to choose from. :D

Thats a possibility as well, but with the symptoms you described I would lean more towards the radio being inhibited.

if it was inhibited shouldn't it still read partially then give you the inhibit error?

Being UHF, the radio is probably not inhibited, but suffers from VCO unlock, and that will cause the green light to flash as well.

If you have a good codeplug image of THAT radio, simply rewrite it to the radio without reading it and see what happens.

Programming the radio with the wrong band information will cause the VCO to unlock as it no longer has the proper range from which to operate and the FGU can't generate any out of band information that can be interpreted by the microprocessor to enable operation.

Sounds like the Radio has been Inhibited. UHF can be inhibited as well, You get the self test screen and then the screen goes blank then thats its. no error on the display.

you can no longer acceess the diagnostics section by pessing the key above the PTT 5 times either

you could try reading the radio with that special version of the RSS and backup the S record. then try and read the radio as normal and look to see if its been inhibited.
