Astro convertacom

Post by Dale Earnhardt »

I remember there was a post somwhere talking about what kind of size battery the convertacom can used, I know the medium size battery can be used, but could the large high cap battery be used in there, or it makes the astro to long to hit the contacts?

The large Hi-Cap battery is too long.

It was me that asked the question since that was the problem I had.

Good luck,
Steve

typical motorola logic.........

Just wondering how the LAPD uses or used to use their convertacoms since I think they did use the high cap battery, or did they just use the convertacoms for charging purposes?

Anyone???????

Thanks shammond for that answer, kind of wondering about that, before i get one of those, so I can be aware and find out the hardway lol.

as for LAPD, they use the convertacom as a mobile radio in ever single car, each car have a convertacom with a radio in it, they never take it out ever. if I remember one of the officer took it out once for me to see, I think it was a medium size battery though

Kind of sad for me though to find out that, those AVA dont supply power to the radio itself to operate at all, it just basically charges the battery while its in there so it can be powerd up, did somebody once said charging the battery with a radio turn on is bad????? lol

LAPD does use the medium size battery. The radios do not always stay locked in the convertacom though. Some of the divisions keep theirs locked so the radio can't be removed, but most turn the radio in at change of shift. The Officers can then swap the battery from the convertacom with the one on their belt as needed.

though AVA will not accept high cap battery, BATTERY ZONE makes a high cap battery in a medium size, rated 1800ma- i checked it on my conditioner, it's actually higher, something like 2100 or 2200ma's!
