What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Well, this is what I have on both AS's if interested. I find that it works well, and is setup like other portables in case someone needs to borrow yours etc...

Buttons:
PTT - PTT
Monitor - Monitor (open squelch)
"A" - Blank/No Function
"B" - Scan
Rocker O - Clear
Rocker / - Secure (If you do not envision using a secure module, just leave them both blank)
RAT 1 - Talkaround
RAT 2 - Light (may be the other way around)

Enable DTMF in each channel that you think you may have a remote use for it. Other than that, don't bother, only because you don't want to get in trouble in case you press the wrong button. Also, for any reason that your are xmitting, and something in your holder or whatever presses a DTMF button, its going to transmit it (if you have live dialing enabled)

USE PL whenever possible. If you don't know the PL tone, find it out. Use a undien scanner, bribe someone, kiss their feet. If you do not have your own programming setup for the radio, its a pain in the ass to find out the channel you have pri scan set to that non pl'd channel to stop on it all the time.

Enable all the softmenus you can. They may not be available on each mode, but they will show up if they apply. I have ZONE, MUTE and CALL for my first three. Put the rest of the scan control stuff in next if most of the time you are using it as a scanner.

Have your scan list writen down before you get the radio programmed. Do one scan list per ZONE. Makes life eaiser than trying to field program your radio (can be a pain in the ass).

I have all lights/alerts enable. I like to know what the radio is doing. DO make sure you decrease the alert voulme. The defaults tend to make the simple sidetones very loud. I have the auto light disabled.

Yes, keep everything high powered, but also make you enable the low power softkey.

You can have 20 scanlists with fifteen members per scanlist. The book says ou can program sixteen but I have not yet figured thta out yet. In almost each zone I have a scanlist of the zone strapped to each channel. You can also have a scanlist strapped to a channel without the channel being in the scanlist. There is also 16 each message and satus aliases. I use it as an electronic dogtag. Put your personal information that you need to have the radio returned to you should you lose the radio. I use my permanent address and phone number. Enable view of messages and scanlists also. You can also store ninteen phone numbers and nineteen MDC call/pages.

What radios do you own?: Radar Range

It's doubling your efforts a little bit but....this is what I did to get both my ASIIIs set up the way I wanted. I used MS Excel to create a spreadsheet of all my channels and PLs IDs etc. One page for personality and zone line-up, one page for scan lists, and a page for all the other little ideosyncracies of the radio(pretty much the configuration screen info) It works well for me and at a moments notice I can move things around nice and easy to see if I might like it that way instead of having to jack around in the software all the time. This way it might be easier to keep track of all the lights and alerts you have turned on an off and such without searching around.

Scan List Program

Post by 26M10 »

Since I have an AS3 that we don't use securenet on I set up the Securenet rocker to be Program Scan List and I LOVE IT.

It is so much better than fumbling thru menus.

Then again I change my scan lists often.
