Pack/unpack?

Post by Aragorn »

I have an AS3 that a buddy used the pack/unpack option of LAB s/w to clone. I've heard that that shouldn't be done, though I've never heard specifically why. Now I'm wondering if that putzed with the tuning of the radio. What does the pack/unpack option(s) do? Thanks.

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Actually, if you use a codeplug from one band, and force it into a radio in another band, you will have to adjust the VCO crossover freq's. The TX side usually does not have to be changed, but the RX side will need to be. As far as I know, this only happens with two different bands, not splits.

I would recommend against publicizing any means of changing the serial number in the codeplug. Because this would a great way of "fixing" stolen radios.

Well then, the question goes unanswered. Does a radio's tuning need to be adjusted if the pack/unpack option is used on it?(assuming same band & split)

I have never tried this pack/unpack thing. But if you're able to change the options in a codeplug then most certainly the tuning values will be overwritten, because of the way the codeplug is structured and the way pack works. A way around this would be to write the values down via the tuning/alignment screens. Do the pack/unpack thing and then update the tuning/alignment values back to what they should be.

Great. That may explain why my DPL ain't working to great now. The idiot forgot to get the original codeplug from the AS first before blowing the new plug into it. I'd rather have back my old 510001-000000-7 flashed plug back but that ain't gonna happen now. Thanks. BTW, anyone know if an AS's non-Astro alignments can be tuned on a non-Astro capable analyzer?

A non-astro capable analyzer is exactly what you want, because all the tuning happens in analog. There is no digital tuning.

I thought so. It's only logical, but then again, you never know. Thanks.
