This morning I sent out for a quote on a new UHF MCS 2000 Model 2 for a new engine. I use the MCS 2000 because it has the capablities to add a dual remote head. This is what we have done on our past two engines, running a dual remote head to the pump panel. Well the local Motorola Authorized Dealer just contacted me back and told me that Motorola no longer manufactors the MCS 2000. Is this true?
If so could someone recommend to me a quality mobile that has capablity to support dual remote heads. Our system is convention with no plans (or $$$) to upgrade to a more complex system in the future.
Thanks,
Kevin

You will have to move on to the next generation radio for dual head capability = XTL2500

I'd suggest a serious look at the Kenwood TK-890 or TK-5810 series radios... both support dual-head functionality - 5810 also features P25. They are, in my experience, a vastly superior radio to the MCS2000, and will be far cheaper than even a conventional/analog-only XTL2500.unioner101 wrote:If so could someone recommend to me a quality mobile that has capablity to support dual remote heads. If you wish a Motorola product, the CDM series with an aftermarket dual head kit like the one that IDA manufactures is still another option.

Have a question on a Kenwood radio as you brought it up. I don't want to hijack the topic
here, but haven't been able to get an answer. You can send me a PM with an answer to
keep this thread on topic.
Question: On the TK5710 mobiles, will the scan restart if it hears a signal with the
wrong CTCSS or will it lock up there until that carrier goes away? The user manual
sort of indicates the radio will stay on that channel. I find that hard to believe that
the firmware in the radio is set up to stay on channel with the wrong CTCSS.

Re: Does Motorola Still Manufactor the MCS 2000
Scan will not stop (at least for more time than neccessary to decode the CTCSS) on the 5710. It works as you would expect. The Kenwood radios I have purchased over the past ten years all scan "correctly". There were some early amateur products that did this though.
But I just noticed some restrictions on scanning on the 5710/5810 in P25 modes. See the latest spec sheet, notes 6 and 11. I am not sure what those notes mean.
Also - you might consider the new TK5720/TK5820 radios. These seem to have all the basic features and are a newer model. Receiver specs, as expected, are reduced, and it has the hated ramp switches, and not enough control/programmable buttons - but will be a lower price.
