IFR Mike

Post by Andy Corbin »

Just a quick tip I will pass along to folks who may have an older IFR service monitor (500, 1200, 1500)

If your unit has a 5 pin mike connector and you need a microphone for it, an old Regency (radio) mike will probably work. A friend of mine who is a radio tech told me about this. I acquired a mike for very little money on Ebay and it works perfectly. No rewiring, proper element impedence and compatible mike connector. I did have to use a bit of DeOxit on the PTT switch but thats a side issue.

The mike even looks like the OEM IFR mike, only it has "Regency" on it rather than "IFR".

The OEM IFR mikes are going on Ebay for 75-100+ dollars.

..an old Uniden mike would also work, and are much more common.
you could even find a DTMF version..
