Tool Proofing

What motorola radio's would I have to worry about tool proofing? Is it only flashport radio's that have this or are there others? I will mainly be programming ht1000, mt1000, mt2000, spectra, maxtrac, gm300, m1225, p1225. Any help would be greatfull. Thanks Darren

I know the MTS2000 is a big one to watch for. Not sure about others. You should be pretty safe with the radios you listed.

It's just MTS2000 from what I'm told.

But, with your GM300..not really toolproofing, but, DON'T blank the Logic Board unless you have a backed up codeplug...

Since both the MTS2000 and MCS2000's have the same controler design, I'd bet on the MTS2000's also suffering from the Toolproofing disease, but I'm not 100% sure.

Same controller design? Just because the RSS looks the same doesn't mean the controllers are!

Only the MTS has toolproofing SO FAR! It wouldn't surprise me if they toolproof some of the newer stuff coming out.....

I'm not saying they use the same software, but they seem to hold the exact same characteristics...

I haven't seen a mobile echo a portable as well as the MCS2000's have echoed the MTS2000's.

I don't hold a lot of respect for the MCS2000's honestly. They are ok radios, they seem to work well, but they are exceptionally flimsy and not something that I would want to rely on.

But hey, that's just my $0.02. It wouldn't suprise me if they took the command board for the MTS2000, threw some different instructions in there to support different buttons and such, and interconnected it to a PA....

They are just too alike. But that's a good thing in the end I guess.

Alex is correct, the internal workings of the MCS2000 mirror the MTS2000 almost down to a "T", both hardware & software wise. However, only the MTS2000 is prone to toolproofing.

I've heard a rumor that Motorola got into big trouble over the Toolproofing issue.

The rumor went something along the lines that they weren't allowed to disable a radio just because someone used old software to program it. The term virus was used to describe the shutting down of the radio when used with old software. This is why the XTS, CDM, etc have not had toolproofing included in their code.

Read up on Batlabs.com on this topic. Toolproofing was designed because labtools got leaked out and people were doing upgrades without paying for them. It just so happened that the older rss didn't recalculate the toolproofing checksum either and crashed a bunch of radios (just because someone didn't upgrade their software-can't blame them either) legitimately.

I think Homer Simpson used to work at M before he worked at the Springfield Nuc Plant.

The p1225 and m1225 cannot be programmed with an "older than last used" RSS.

Same goes for alot of Motorola radios, you must use the same level of RSS that the radio was last programmed with or newer.

Motorola likes to use the newest and screw you into upgrading your RSS so you can program it again.
