H07 Multi key software encryption and APCO-25

Post by ScannerDan »

Hi All,

I was looking at the Astro Saber 3 that "APCOSYSTEM" is selling on E-bay. I noticed that his Q806 (IMBE/APCO-25) radios also had H07 (Multi Key Software Encryption) flashed into them. I thouht that H07 won't work on a true IMBE radio. What's up ? I would like to know BEFOR I buy one.

Thanks

Dan..

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

I believe you can have Hardware muiltikey, just not software multikey. HOWEVER, looking at the new version of the Astro Saber page here, that may no longer be true. It looks like it works on both VSLEP and IMBE systems.

When M switched from VSELP to IMBE, the need for software encryption was no longer immediate, so they didn't bother with implementing it. The main reason being, LAPD, which was the main reason to have software encryption, was not switching to IMBE in the near future...this is in the mid 90s. You could have it turned on, but bad things would happen if the radio was to be keyed up in secure mode with software encryption enabled.

I'm not sure whether software encryption was eventually re-implemented. If it was it would have been in Astro Saber host version 7.x.x and Astro Spectra version 11.x.x or later. I think I have my numbers correct. If your IMBE firmware is older than what I've mentioned, then it will definately not work.
