MTX?
Came across an 800 mhz portable today. Was programmed for conventional 800 mhz freqs. Looked exactly like an HT1000, and had a sticker with just MTX on it. Can someone tell me what model this is, specs, and whether it will do type II trunking...?
Thanks for your attention!!

- What radios do you own?: Too many..
MTX's are just the Canadian general term for MTX2000/4000/8000. The most common nameplate they put on the MTX is "MTX838". They still use the same model number decoding as the HT1000. Most MTX portables will do type II trunking, but hey if it is not part of the radio model number, it won't no matter what type it is. They are sturdy radios, as all Jedis are in my opinion.

I believe Metro121 is talking about dumping in a B5 codeplug & replacing the 16-position channel selector with the continuous rotary version from the B4 model. In a case like that you would certainly want the B4 display as well (B3 boards won't support the B5 front display, but will support the B4 top display).

You still didn't give us a model number.
Also, the specific 800MHz frequencies already in it would help...
If they are high 800's (ie. 896-899) then it's a 900MHz radio.
I have a drawerful of these marked MTX. All are type II trunking and will also hold 10 conventional freq's, but I suspect that that isn't what you're looking for.

Any chance you want to share this info with us. I have a B3 converted to a B4 but cannot get any more than 16 channels and 1 zone out of it. It is an MTX. It already does type II trunking.metro121 wrote:The MTX8000,s and 838's, B3 models can all be hacked up to do 160 chanels in 3 Zones and Type II Smartnet.

Do any of you guys have one of this codeplugs to convert this my MTX 8000 radios into type II? If you could send it to me it would be great, I have 30 B3 radios I can't use in my smartnet type II. My email is [email protected]

I just did another of my B3's to a 4 and the only way I could get it to Zone was to use the A/B/C switch. Tried the side buttons with no luck.
I think the cont. channel knob seems like about the only way.
I might try it tonight as I have a B3 conv to a B4 that THINKS it's a B7 with 160 modes and 6 Systems in it, and I can only access 48 modes!
