What is the easiest way to tell if this repeater is IP site connect ready? Or if it is the older version?

You need to read it with CPS and see if it has at least 1.4 firmware in it, as that was the release which enabled IP Site Connect.

I would still two step it to the most current version. Remember that anything prior to 1.06 needs to be bumped to 1.06.20 and THEN to 1.07.02.

Many things are 'fixed' with the newest firmware, including the USB speed goes from 2mb to 12mb.

That is not quite correct. Anything with firmware 1.02.00 or lower needs the interim step, which Motorola says to jump to the latest they make available on MOL, which is 1.06.20. It doesn't have to be that particular version. You can single step anything above 1.02.00.

That's what they say, but I have bricked a couple of repeaters in the middle there somewhere, and after two, we two-stepped ALL of them that were around 1.03.xx and didn't have any problems. The first two were also in the 1.03.xx range.

Better safe than sorry, in my case, since we were at a remote mine and I only brought one spare loaner repeater. :x

That does suck. We've single stepped many with no issues, however I believe they were all at least 1.04 to begin with.
