Mr. Jetson, can you be a little more vague in your questions? Your son seem to be quite knowledgble with Astros, you might think about having a "father-son talk" soon. You might think about getting a real dog rather than a robot dog - I know your going to have to walk/feed a real dog, but...........

If you have specific questions on how to program this radio, I'll try to offer some assistance.

BUT...I'll tell you first that there's no better way than to read the radio, crawl all over the codeplug in the RSS, and figure it out yourself. Those radios are complex and there's a lot to them. You will NOT be able to get satisfactory instruction without actually participating and doing a lot of it yourself.

First, dive in. Then see if you can figure out how to swim on your own. If you need help on specific points, ask your questions.

I have a specific question- Is the low power Spectra programming cable (DB15) pin compatible with the Astro Spectra dashmount (DB15)? I know there are some variations of spectras that arent particularly impressed with +12v applied to the programming cable power lead. Does the Astro Spectra fall into this group? I have no interest in turning this radio into a kilobuck worth of chokblock.

From my experience, I've used a homemade low power cable for programming both analog and ASTRO spectras. And if the spectra doesn't require ignition sense to be hot or it's a remote mount model, don't apply power.
