What does this mean in Astro 25 trunking: FAIL 001?

It seems to be the only thing my radio shows.

I got it to happen by enabling Astro25 trunking.

A FAIL001 error happens when the synthesizer attempts to lock onto a frequency and is unable to do so. What this means is usually one of 2 reasons. Either your frequency (in the case of trunking, the control channel, or the voice channel if it happened during rx/tx), is beyond the spec'd range of the rf-deck, or it could be because you have a "bad" rf deck.

Since you mentioned Astro25 trunking, I'll take it you meant APCO25 digital trunking with 9.6K CC. Did you by any chance "force" (for lack of a better term) the options into your radio? (Not that this is a bad thing.. ) And is your radio's host version less than 7.x.x? If so, then this *may* be another reason.

xts3000 from N.Y.

Post by mhaynes41 »

Ok now about the radios with that DPS and frimwarethat came from N.Y. It has come to light that they had been flashed from the big M with a mismatch version that is why they will not do the 9.6k control in even caused the hardware not to work right or even to get flashed the right way. But other wise they are good radios unless you need or ever need to have the 9.6k control channle.

yOU mentioned "Ok now about the radios with that DPS and frimwarethat came from N.Y. "
But I see no mention of a flashcode in this thread...

Also, if motorola goofed or screwed up, then HAVE to fix it.
Just a metter of prooving that motorola did the flash u/g on it and sending it back!

No???

xts3000 from N.Y.

Post by mhaynes41 »

Like I said they would only be the xts3000 from N.Y with frimware R7.04 and DSP N7.03.16 and no they would have to fix it being they where all donated for a tax write off. AS the would say AS IS where IS. Or should I say don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

This will all come to light as the days/weeks go on I'm sure.

After the city put back up there UHF systems the xts3000 800 mhz radios where no longer needed there are other posts telling about this whole thing.

It has been well documented that Motorola gave a bunch of radio equipment to NY workers and volunteers to aid in the 9-11 crisis.

But where did the radios go after all was said and done???

They sat on shelves getting no use at all. Freebies from Motorola with no more purpose.

So, the agencies that had the radios in their possession (after a year of no use) had them sold off.

I have one of these Motorola radios- manufactured in September of 2001 ('ABS' in the serial).

R07.05.00, DSPN 07.03.19. Basic flash-code of 100004-000000-4: Smartnet, IMBE, Conventional operation.

I have been lucky enough to have the flash upgraded to the 'common one that everyone has'- common with apcosystem's radios which I cannot recall right now, however, when I tried to get it upgraded to support 9.6k digital APCO-25 trunking, it was a no-go with 'FAIL001' on the display on any and all APCO-25 systems programmed- which is bad for me because the system I am on is ASTRO-25 enabled although currently on the 3600baud channel.

So, the idea was to have it sent out for a DSPN upgrade because it doesn't support ASTRO-25 as it is but for some reason when the FLASH memory is attempted to be erased it doesn't do it.

So, anyone with an XTS3000 originating from the donated pool from Motorola after 9-11, then they're SOL if they want to get ASTRO-25 trunking enabled unless they can ship it to Motorola. It'd be easier to buy a new radio with ASTRO-25 then to get Motorola to do you an upgrade!!!

So, in light of this, does anyone have an XTS3000 model II or III that they'd like to trade for my Model II on 800Mhz, if it can do ASTRO-25 trunking and they don't need ASTRO-25 trunking???

That's probably a fat chance too.
