XTL5000 with an o3

Post by BurnCe »

Hey guys
I could really use some help on this one. I just recently purchased 2 XTL5000s with o3 heads and I can’t seem to program the damn things!

I have a couple of XTL5000 o5s and 15 or so XTL2500s and the Motorola USB programming cable with the latest CPS and I have never had a problem.

I have tried to use the port in the main radio and as soon as I do it beeps as displays “NO USB”

Any help would really appreciated

I'll throw this out there....... the firmware in the radio doesn't support USB?

Past that, more details on the radio's are needed, host, dsp, flash etc.
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Ditto on spectragod's comments. I had numerous early and mid-production O3s that would get the same message when attempted via a USB cable. The serial cable worked fine every time. Current firmware and CPS versions have no problems with either. Your call on whether to buy a new serial cable or a firmware upgrade x 2. Enjoy your O3s though, they're great! Best wishes.

The mid power remotes do not support USB on the GCAI connector. You will need to use an RS232 cable to the TIB, or use an O5 head and go into the mic jack. It is not firmware, it is just the way they were made.

Confirmed, ran into the same issue last year...seems silly that you can't use USB on the TIB, but that's how it is.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

you can use USB on the rear connector as well, just not on the GCAI as pointed out. Agreed its silly.
