IFR 1100S Battery Charger??

Post by Tim »

Hi Folks,

I'm going to get a new battery for my 1100s, and was wondering if the battery charger in the unit will eventually fry the battery, or is it smart enough to make it last a long while?

thanks,

The Battery chargers in those vintages were pretty "dumb". Just a constant current/voltage setup.
I would suggest pulling the battery if not needed for extended periods and getting an external smart charger to maintain the battery.
I have seen 1200 series with damage from cells that leaked over time ..I am sure it took years though.
You would be amazed at the number of 1200's that are being lugged around for years with completely dead cells just waiting to drip acid on the power supply.

Thanks JRY, I kind of figured as much - was even thinking about installing a small rocker switch on the side panel so I could disconnect the battery when not really using it.
