At work we have an emergency paging system in all the classrooms. Basically it is a Bogen paging system, that is used in case of emergencies. The only downfall to this system is the displays and phones are in certain offices. During the day this is not a problem, but on evenings, there are, at times, no one near any of the displays. I'd like to have at least an alert on our repeater that will alert us to a call, so we can get to the nearest office to answer. I saw someone posted the Ritron Quick Talk system for a power outage alert, but It only goes up to 165Mhz. Our input to the repeater is 173Mhz. This kinda bums me out, since that would work perfectly. We could come out of the Bogen system from a relay out, and use it to activate a message on the quick talk on our repeater input, and alert us of the alarm.
Since that probably wouldn't work, we could use a small mobile, and some type of device to play a recorded message when the relay out of the Bogen closes.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Repeater alert
You are essentially where many of us have been in the past. You will have to look at what you have, determine what it takes to tie it together, and then make it a reality.
ie: If the Bogen can drive the phone system with an alert, then it may be able to drive a mobile radio. You'll need PTT, tx audio, and a ground at a minimum. You may have to invert the PTT from the Bogen into the radio. You may have to isolate the tx audio into the radio, and add a line level adjustment. You may have to isolate the ground to prevent hum. etc etc etc.
Simple in concept, but it may be DIY.

Couple of questions:
Is the repeater on the same premises as the phone sys?
Is there a control station near the phone sys?

Re: Repeater alert
Thanks Bill, I figured that is what I'd have to do.
Will:
The phone system is on our first floor, in an old ventilation shaft/closet, almost directly below the 4th floor ventilation penthouse, where the repeater is located.
No control station near the phone system currently
The repeater is a GR1225.

You'll be able to connect through the mic jack on the front panel of the GR. You'll just have to McGuiver the interface between the two devices.
Re: Repeater alert
If I can get the powers to be to go for it, thats what we'll probably do. I could just make a device to emit a steady tone, and run a cable from the closet with the bogen in it, straight up the vent shaft to the repeater.

Not sure what exactly you're trying to do here. If the Ritron Quick talk will not work for you (freq limit), Midians makes a squawk box complete with DVR canned voice, you'll just have to add your own radio to it to make it all work.

Now are you trying to simulcast PA audio out over the radio also? The reason I ask is a customer (hospital) is requesting that when a code call is placed from a phone to the overhead PA paging system, that it also goes out over the radio on both the security and maintenance radio channels (I have already solved the problem of connecting two repeaters together for this). Existing at the facility is a Bogen PA system and they have a Bogen model TAMB2 to interface the phone to the PA. It is set for loop start and any phone that connects to that extention will have the ability to make an overhead page (after a go-ahead beep). My thinking is to parallel a second TAMB2 across the phone line and interface that to a control base that would broadcast the message out the radios. Hasn't been implemented yet, but is on my to-do list. If it fails miserably, I'll post a retraction.
