Hi gang,
Looking to program a PM1500 unit. It has R20 firmware and I have Astro25 Mobile CPS R20 on Windows 8.1 64-bit. I also have an OEM Motorols USB XTL programming cable.
I'm guessing the issue may be that I'm using Win8.1..... or is it because I have 64-bit?
The "device" doesn't completely install when I attach to the radio. An entry in Device Manager for "Motorola XTL 5000 Series Radio" is there with a "question mark".
What I am doing wrong?
Appreciate the help. And sorry for the noob questions...I'm quite familar with portables (Astro, Astro25, APX), but this is first foray into mobiles.
Thanks!
Astro25 CPS (R20) and Win8.1

Windows XP or 7 32/64 bit. I programmed that unit myself with a OEM serial cable on Windows 7 64 Bit without issue. I am not a fan of windows 8.

I don't believe Win 8 is supported in the Astro 25 CPS yet?

Yep, guessing the problem will be with the Motorola USB driver versus Windows 8, do you have a serial programming cable and a decent quality USB-->Serial adapter you could try (assuming the PC doesn't have a 'real' serial port of course)?

I picked up a WinXP Pro laptop for real cheap and will be using XP to program the radio.

I program xts5000's no problem with win8.1 on a Dell venue 8 tablet but mine is a 32 bit system and I have heard of others with 64 bit OS problems.
I am using an original Mot serial cable and a usb-serial adapter. It sounds like the proper usb drivers did not load in your case.
