Visar Dual Battery Desktop Charger

Post by kato56 »

I have a newer style Visar desktop dual battery charger P/N BC6LMVIR01. I'm trying to find out if this charger is for Ni-Cad only or will it safely charge my NOS Ni-MH ???

Thanks

I would say NO, those Aztec chargers had problems.

OK seems weird that I have Moto OEM Ni-MH Visar batteries and need to find a after market charger.

Considering you can still order the charger on MOL, and the ONLY battery you can still purchase on MOL for Visar is NiMH (NTN7397CR), I would say it's a safe bet it's a dual chemistry charger. Unfortunately, the description Motorola gives doesn't say specifically:

"Dual unit charger is designed to sequentially charge two batteries and can charge each battery in one to three hours. The charger will ship with a power cord. The charger is designed to operate with the use of interchangeable plug in line cords. Additional line cords may be purchased separately."

I have the user manual for the NTN1308A dual unit charger, it shows the NTN7396 and NTN7394 NiMH batteries as compatible. There is also a note that says "Charger model number AA16742"

The label on the bottom indicates a P/N BC6LMVIR01, KIT: NTN8076A 8118MLO05
I have Ni-MH NTN7396B slim battery that I don't want to burn up since it is NOS to me.

Thanks

I found pictures of that unit on line that have a label at the front of the left pocket that indicates it chargers NiCad and niMH batteries. Here one on EBay, you can see the label.

If this is the one that has the rear of the charger in a semi circle shape, that was the newer model than the original, so I'm sure it's good for NiMH.

PS: After re-reading your original post, you do mention it is the newer model charger.
