Looking for repair shop in LA area for IFR-1600S

Post by kato56 »

My 1600S starting failing self tests # 9-12, 16-23. I'm hoping to find someone local versus shipping it out. Anyone know of someone in Los Angeles, Orange County areas that repairs and might even calibrate service monitors.

Thanks

Sorry Will, "Check the place in Torrance" doesn't compute. . . can you give me more info.

Thanks

IFR 1600S troubleshooting power supply

Post by n0czv »

Hello!

Does anyone know of a schematic that is available for the power supply in the IFR-1600S?
I found a blown 7 amp fuse on the board. The unit was dead except for the two power lights on the front.
Now, upon power up, the fan runs and I hear a pattern of two beeps. A single beep followed by two beeps, pattern repeating. The monitor CRT does not come up.

I downloaded the user and maintenance manuals. There is a block diagram, but I have not found a full schematic.

Thanks

For the record, NexTec only works on Motorola/General Dynamics equipment, and their track record as far as communication and turnaround times have been HORRID lately. It's basically a one man operation with too much work.

It sounds like the main firmware is not loading - it may be your EPROM board (or flash board, if the unit is new enough) has been corrupted.
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.

I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.

I AM NOT the Service department: You want official info, manuals, service info, parts, calibration, etc., contact Aeroflex directly, please.

IFR 1600S Troubleshooting Power Supply

Post by n0czv »

I have the unit up and running after replacing a fuse in the power supply unit and reseating a ribbon cable. The encoder is on order from Aeroflex. I haven't determined the age of this one yet, but it does not hold the time. Frequency data is still maintained.

Ordered a clock chip, waiting on the encoder to get back inside.....

I ended purchasing a Pelican Hard Case and shipped my IFR-1600S to Aeroflex who repaired and calibrated it. Was not cheap, but it's now working great.

Please let us know of the end cost of the repair. Also interested in the calibration cost if it was a separate line item
and the model number and cost of the Pelican Hard Case. Thanks

This is a breakdown of the costs that my club has invested in our IFR:

IFR 1600S Initial purchase $1,825.741 from RDR Electronics as a surplus unit

Unit failed after 2 years of use.

Purchased a shipping container:
Pelican Protector 1690 $350.81
1699 lid organizer $45.49
Total 431.96

Estimated Repair from Aeroflex: $1,989.00

Repair Cost $1,989.00 + $95.00 Shipping back to me, total $2,084.00
Replace 10MHz Oven Oscillator. Single Repair and Standard Calibration (verbage from the Aeroflex estimate)

Regards, Duane
