Door switches on camper shell

Post by kens »

I am trying to install some type of switches on a couple of camper shells. My plan is to operate an overhead light tied to a timer. I was thinking about using magnetic reed switches (operating a small relay) on the side and rear door as the angles for pin switches would be difficult. I have seen these used for alarm applications in buildings but don't know how suitable they are for mobile applications. Has anyone ever done this?

I would go to a large local Electronics supply place in your area. I was just looking through an EP catalog and there are tons of switches, problem is that you really need to see them for your application. I would think that some type of Pin switch would work, but apparently not what you are thinking. I was thinking of doing the same thing on the shell of my F-250. The battery operated manually switched light doesn't have enough light output to see your hand. My idea was going to a switch setup where the light would automatically come on upon opening the hatch, but I wasn't thinking about a delayed timer for shutting it off, just a manual override to turn it off a leisure.

Just use a flush mount magnetic alarm switch commonly used for commercial and home security. They are durable and OEM manufacturers use them on ambulances and fire apparatus compartments. Just make sure you relay them.
