And just in case you see it, the more extreme version of LOL is ROFLMAO, which breaks down to Rolling On the Floor Laughing My A** Off!

Or Lots Of Luck...but that rarely makes sense context-wise, either.

Don't worry about it Eric, when I first "started" going on the interent and IM'ing my other buddies, they used LOL, and I had no clue what it ment. I felt dumb asking them, but, hey, you can't help what you dont know:) Heck, there are tons of "short hand" expressions that i still dont know :)

I agree with Eric, this is a good bunch, and I'm proud to be a member. As such, I refer folks here frequently.

As for not being important enough to be called "sir," I tell folks who call me "sir" that I'm not OLD enough to be called sir! That usually gets 'em!

I think it was in Full Metal Jacket but...."Don't call me 'SIR' I work for a living!!!"

And since we are on acronyms....

LOLFDGB - Little Old Lady Fall Down Go Boom

FOWL - Found Outside With Luggage (Can go with the last one)

SOSDD - Same Ole Sh*t Different Day

PIMP - Peeing In My Pants

ROFL - Rolling On FLoor Laughing (Can be used with PIMP)

DRT - Dead Right There

AST - Assuming Room Temperature

ABC - (My personal Favorite) Ambulance Before Carry

Sadly I have a whole book full of real and not so real acronyms heard around EMS. My wife although has written a whole PreHospital Care Report in all acronyms once. That was quite the challenge. I heard the nursing staff took 4 and a half hours with a medical dictionary to decipher it. I'm not sure who was more bored. Her or the ER.....

Yep, SOB does mean Shortness of Breath.

I had an interesting experiance with this one. While transporting a Pt. (Patient) to the local hospital we were making the patch in and I made the comment, "Pt. states he is a little SOB." Needless to say this didn't go over very well with the Pt. in the back with me. While he didn't understand the right way it was needing to be taken, He started calling me names and I really didn't pick up on why he was calling me names intill we made our delivery to the ER and he told the Doc that he should report me cause I called him "A little Son of a B!^ch." It was then that the Doc said, "Ummmm.. Sir, SOB means Short of Breath." The Pt. Blushed a lot and then apologized to me for using such language, he usally doesnt talk like that!!
