Are there any exceptions to the"4 chip+2K/5 chip+8K" rule for the front boards on Sabers? I bought one from a local re-seller-He claims it has the "128" chip on the board--All have 88 or 89 date codes--Has 7122 and 2159 on top of board...also"A67" white stamped on it. He is a bit arrogant and SWEARS it is a 120 channel radio. Have I been stiffed? Thanks for help, I really want to believe he is telling the truth and I am missing out on something. Thanks again--Blitz.

There is a 128K chip display board available because the 8K chip was (reportedly) discontinued. I have not laid my hands on such a board to evaluate the radio's capabilities, but one thing's for certain: The fifth chip is the DTMF generator. If that's not present, the radio can not generate DTMF signals, period.
The 128K chip does not include a DTMF generator, so if one were in a four chip board, it'd be incapable of DTMF regardless
of the radio's memory capacity.

Thanks, Elroy. Since the date codes on all of the board's chips are 88-89, I SERIOUSLY DOUBT it is the NEWER 128 board. My main concern is that it is a 48 channel, not the 120 channel I was told when I bought it. Thanks Elroy--you have answered my question.Time to go do more "research" as suggested by a prior post--obviously my data is "lacking".To all, a happy upcoming season. Blitz.
