I got a question.....I was told that there is a way to set the repeater to turn it's cooling fan on only when it gets hot, currently it is on whenever the repeater is on, anybody know how to change that?

Hi:

" IF " you have the True GR300 Repeater
Housing and Fan Set up, there is a Thermistor
located on the Heat Sink of the Transmitter.

There are ( 4 ) Wires going to the Fan, ( 2 )
are for the DC Power ( 2 ) are for the Fan
Switch which goes to the Thermistor.

Home Made Set ups probably do not have that
option, but one could fabricate a Thermostatic Switch as they do make button
types in various temp ranges.

On some radios we put the fan on with a ptt relay this also works.

In the GR400 and GR500 the fan is on all the time. If you have the small GR repeater housing using two radios, then it depends wether you have the later version power supply mad by Duracom for Motorola. The Duracom power supply has the thermisior that clips on the transmitter heat sink.

I use the GR500 cabinet often and the fan is wired to run all the time from the factory.
I have however, wired a preset thermostat switch which comes in a TO220 case, to control the fan.
It works great!

On this subject I have a question:
I am setting up a UHF repeater with two rick units & duplexer for use on a occasional basis. I wanted to know about the fan/cooling requirements, and I have access to 40 watt and 25 watt radios. SHould I have fans on all the time?
Should they be 110VAC or 12VDC?
Should I control them with some type of thermo switch as is mentioned in some above threads or should I just wire directly and have fans on all the time. I would think that fans all the time would be bad to life of the fans but not sure.
Also is there any advantage to an ac ~vs~ dc fans, such as interference,, etc...?

Thanks
