DSP 6.x.x and OVER still have VSLEP instead of IMBE

Post by Hightower »

Is it possable for an AS3 with a DSP of 7.03.12 to still have VSLEP? Or are all 6.x.x and over all IMBE?

This info would be great to know, and would be easy to identify which "flavor" an AS3 is at a local hamfest.

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

It would be possible, but I would doubt it. Firmware on that level would most likley have a 1meg controller, and most likely IMBE, which is what you would want (usually).

It can still be V-Selp with a 1 meg controller, since the 512K boards are not available from M, if you send in a V-Selp radio to the Depot and it gets a vocoder, guess what they put in it... a 1 meg board.

Here's your basic cheat sheet for host/dsp...memorize it or keep it in your back pocket.

Portables(A. Saber)
3.x.x/5.x.x or lower = VSELP
4.x.x/6.x.x or highrer = IMBE/APCO25
If the host version is 7.x.x then it is *definately* on a 1 meg board.

Mobiles (A. Spectra)
7.x.x/5.x.x or lower = VSELP
8.x.x/6.x.x or higher = IMBE/APCO25
If the host version is greater than 8.0.0 then it is *definately* on a 1 meg board. The *only* IMBE version of mobile host that can fit on a 512K board is 8.0.0.

IMBE vs. VSELP

Post by ASTROMODAT »

FYI, DIU 3000's are still shipping with either VSELP or IMBE, customer choice. However, as of June, 2003, ALL DIU 3000's will ship ONLY with IMBE.

I guess VSELP is dead, like Beta. A good idea, but no one else wanted it except its parent company.

Thanks folks for all your input! :D

Spectragod :o , its good to see your still around batlabs boards. Hope to see you at Dayton Hamvention this year. (you had a /\/\otorola carring case that I should have picked up from ya lat year - still kicking myself)

XDCLabs, learned much from your past posts, keep up the great work (neat webpage too!)

Seems as this message board post brought out most of the Astro guru's to respond. PJ and ASTROMODAT please keep up the good work as well, as many of my questions have already been answered from everyone in older posts.

We have a great group here!

Don't forget that some very large public safety agencies are using VSELP:

The City of Memphis
The City of Cleveland

I don't know what their upgrade path is, but you gotta wonder where the sales exec is right now who sold these systems to those agencies.

can you say, "humma humma humma"

VSELP is dead, except for support of legacy equipment. For instance, the DIU 3000 is no longer shipping with VSELP.
