Why can't I get Modat on my Astro Saber??

Post by Mai78211 »

I have two (2) Astro Saber III's, and I can not seem to get Modat on them. I thought that ALL Astros were supposed to do the Q351 (Modat) option. Or maybe I am mistaken. Is this option model specific? Or should ALL Astros be able to do it? Or, if someone has two (2) Astros Saber III's that will do Modat they want to trade or sell let me know. Mine are in mint condition. One with a brand new housing. Any information will appreciated. Thank you!

MODAT is only available as an option to a couple of agencies that needed it before upgrading to digtial. LAPD and MPD I believe. There may be others. You can usually NOT get an upgrade to MODAT. It is a suboption to VSLEP. If you are able to upgrade to MODAT, you will lose IMBE if you have it. When I was going to order it, it was around $700 for it.

Don't forget PJ....

MODAT WILL work on IMBE Sabers, and WILL NOT work on IMBE Spectras. Modat will work on either Mobile or Portable with VSELP.

You will need a flash upgrade to add Modat to the Astro Saber.

Yup, it will work with Astro Sabers and XTS's, but will not work with IMBE Astro Spectra's.

However, last time I talked to the Motorola rep (not the MSS) the only way to order it (last year) was with VSLEP. You couldn't get MODAT without also getting VSLEP-package deal.

I do have a AS3 that has modat and vslep in it, and got a good price for a flashupgrade to IMBE...would have been interesting if I would be able to keep MODAT in it after the upgrade.

If I don't sell it, I may do that when I have some spare cash laying around.

why not just enter the flash code from the AS3's you have into the interactive flash decoder and see if it is indeed enabled in the radio.
