Using a MTS on Astro Control???

Post by AngelFire_91 »

Hey all,
I was looking today when the City Water guy came out to replace my water meter that they were using MTS2000's and he had a MCS2000 in his truck. Now the strange part that I had a question on was, I know the utilities are on the Astro system here so I was courious to know can the MCS and MTS run on an Astro system? Now when listening to his radio it was clearly Analog voice, not digital, so can it be runing in analog mode off of an Astro Control channel

Our system is a 800Mhz Smartzone with the slower 3600kb Control.

So which of these will be flashed into a MTS or MCS to run on an astro system.

Q241
or
H15
or
Q806
or
Q361

and I know it would have to have H38 for Smartzone, but which of the above to work on the Astro Control?

The control channel on a 36k system is analog, so an astro or non astro type II radio can watch the control channel. This makes it possible to have both analog and digital talkgroups, if the system is so configured, and hence have users like you mentioned.

Yes, it is called a mixed mode system. They can set up the system fleet map for analog or digital talkgroups.
