Out of band programming
I have a band split of 450-512 ans want to program it lower and i do so in the codeplug. by using the hex editor
if i take it to a place where the rss isnt hex edited will it say out of range when they dump the codeplug in it ?
or since i allready had the codeplug edited would it take it no problems?
lowering to 440 band

well its a as3
and i got a modified codeplug first and it had all ready down to 444 and such but when i manually tried to change them in a unmodified version it knocked it to 450
its rss 9.05
and no i havent tried dumping it into a radio yet since I will be taking it to the radio shop once i finish the codeplug
but since it seems that it if it is only dumped into the radio it should be fine, but then i havent ever dumped a codeplug into a AS3 before

Well usually I have just gotten an error that the data has frequencies out of band. It asks if you want to pack it anyway...you say yes and it'll do it's thing.

First, you can't use CPS to do out of band modificatons, unless it's version 2, where there seems to be some play, about 6mhz.
You'll have to use RSS.
The modifications for MTSX should work for the astro stuff in RSS - Infact, if you do some searching on the board you can prob. find out how to do the band mods in the RSS. I haven't done this as I never had a astro UHF radio, so i'm not saying this from experience, just FYI.
Your RSS will need to be modded in the same way that the rss that origionally programed the portable was, or at least to span the same set of frequencies. If you don't open the frequency personality that has the out of band stuff, I don't think the software will complain.
Use the SEARCH feature to find out more

[also, please keep astro topics to the astro forum, this one will be moved]

Hmmm. I'm by NO means an expert on AS3 programming, but I have repeatedly programmed my radio and 4-5 others Out-Of-Band (440 Ham freqs into 450-512 radios) with my CPS versions 1 through 1.04. I have not bothered to try with my 2.0 yet, but the software mod should be the same. I used the hex editor just as Batlabs descibed and it works great. Scary thing editing code (for me anyway) but it has been working great for me. YMMV

Iv'e also use tried all versions of CPS from 1.0.0 to 2.0.0 with the batlabs mod to the CPS .exe file and never had a problem taking any of my 450 to 520 astro radios down to 435 MHz, nor doing the opposite with my 406 to 470 radios, 435 is about the lower limit where tracking data goes to crap on a 450 to 520 radio.

when you edit the frequency data in the CPS AstroXX.exe program do a save as with the same name as the original astroXX.exe file.
But first before you do any editing take your original CPS astroXX.exe program and move it to a safe directory that's different than what it is in now, next make a copy of it and move the copy to the directory where your hexedit program is and run hexedit and change the frequency values according to the procedure in batlabs, next do a SAVE AS and save the edited program with the exact same name as the original. Get out of your hexedit program and copy the hexed .exe file and then go back to your original astro directory and copy the saved file back in and then run the CPS. I find this is easier to do than moving one file around, you can have a copy in your hexedit directory to play with and a safe original saved in another directory away from the CPS and the one that you have edited and are going to run in your astro directory.

I've done that. The problem is I cnage the band limits in CPS 2.0 to bring 450.000 down to 440.000. I then save it using Hex Workshop and HW saves the original as a backup. I go back in and verify the changes.
The first time I run the program it sets the band limits back to the defaults. Almost as if there is some checking going on in the program.

I just tried another band limit change and was able to get it to work just fine, all I did was hexedit it and then I did a SAVE AS and named it AstroPort.exe and it worked. The only time I had a backup copy made was if I clicked on the save ICON on the toolbar, don't want to do that. Try the pulldown file menu and SAVE AS.

here is some interesting info on the bandlimit hack for CPS that I just found out.
I did the hack about 4 months ago and then my PC started to croak. I was able to copy my Astro directory to my new PCs hard drive and then I reinstalled the CPS on my new PC, same version as on the old PC. The reinstall went fine with no problems.
The interesting part happened when I ran the CPS that I had just installed. I found that even though I hadn't yet hexedited the bandlimits of the recently installed CPS, when I went into hexedit program to do the hack they were already modified and set to the ranges that I modified 4 months earlier, keep in mind that this was on the CPS version that I just installed my new PC reinstalled from the original installation CD.
I double checked to see if maybe there was another previous version in the new directory but not so the dates in properties showed that the version I was looking at had been installed just minutes prior to looking at it with hexedit, apparently once you do the bandlimit hack and run the CPS it must save the new hacked limits to one of the other files that the CPS uses and when you reinstall the CPS astro.exe file, if you save the older accessory files that CPS uses, then apparently the reinstall doesn't overwrite them.

I've been watching this thread for a while now and just have NO IDEA what the heck i'm looking at in the Hex editor.... I found the codes on the left, but there's nothing that resembles the frequency spread in the codes to the right....
Am I doing something wrong?
I've tried this:
Opening ASTROM
Opening ASTROM w/a UHF Code plug loaded into the software
Opening just the codeplug in hex.
I'm using CPS (sorry
2.00.01
I currently have a W-7 Astro Spectra 482-512 and REALLY need it to go 450-504.... if I HAVE TO SETTLE, then 450-482....
ANYONE HELP!!!!!
THanks
