MCS2000 Acting funny!!

I have a UHF MCS2000 Model 3, bought brand new..from legit shop approx 2 years ago. Have noticed that the radio while on..not scanning or anything just sitting there will transmit on its own. Vehicle is parked not moving and it will just transmit. Have been leaving it on simplex channel so I will not inadvertanly tie up our repeater. Any suggestions or assistance would be great. Radio should be told that this is serious business and to quit acting funny.

If that doesn't work, I'd pull the radio down and check the boards and connectors for corrosion. The 2000's are prone to that after a while, especially with the MCS2000 "removable" faceplate.

I've seen a number of them come out of fire truck cabs that are air-conditioned until the firefighters open the doors and let the humidity in. Then everything in the cab has a coating of dew all over it because the fire types like to keep the A/C set somewhere between "light frost" and "snow flurries".

Boards/connectors can be cleaned; may solve the problem.

Charlie, How are you running the Mic? Is it plugged into the control head or running off the accessory connector. If it is on the accessory connector, you could have a short. I believe it is pin 21, if it hits any ground it will activate the PTT. If it is connected to the Mic Jack on the control head, unplug the Mic and see what happens.

Also, check the connector under the radio. If it's programmed for emergency footswitch, and the jumper opens, you're off to the races. There's also the issue with the regulator getting un-soldered from the board. The radio gets a headache, and acts nuts.....

Well, thanks to all that have repiled so far. I did leave that info out. It is remote mounted. Head in front of vehicle (99 Ford Expedition) Guts in rear cargo area mounted on side wall. The mic is connected to the front mic connector on the control head. I will check all the connections to see if that may be the problem. And will try all the other recommendations. Does anyone on the board now, if Motorola ever recalled those radios for a similar problem. Could I call the depot and find out? And if so, does any one have the depot infomation. Thanks again in advance.
