xts3000 wont work with speaker mike

Post by Jay »

I know this is a stab in the dark, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced this. I see folks talking about having invalid tones with watchbuddy radios on MDC and MODAT signalling modes, but nothing like this.

I have a watchbuddy UHF low split radio, and I cant get the speaker mike to work on it. The speaker works fine, but it will not key up the radio. I have verified this in the test mode, it does not sense the PTT switch. Is there anything I can do/check? I have gone in and reseated the flex, to try that. The speaker mike works fine on all other radios.

Ideas?

I believe this was addressed in a earlier thread this. It has to with the radio host version, and some incompatabilities in it. Best person to ask would probablity be Shawn (r0f) since I think it was he who spotted it.

I believe the watchbuddy radios still work with an external speaker/mic, they just make a weird sounding tone or something like that. Sounds like an internal hardware problem, but someone else may know otherwise.

This mike works fine on my 800 XTS, and my MTS2000. So I am certain it is not the mike.

My 800 radio is not a watchbuddy, my UHF one is. Still doing the same thing.

Swap the flex from your 800MHz unit & see what happens.

Why didnt I think of that Todd? Duh - anyway I swapped the two housings (even though one was model II and one model III). And that took care of the problem totally. The speaker mike works fine on the 800 Mhz housing.

I'm suprised though, the model III housing is brand new, the radio programs fine through the same connector (I know, different pins).

Anyone have a model III XTS housing they want to get rid of??
