VSELP Is Now DEAD!
Motorola's March, 2003 R3 Price Book shows "Intent-To-Cancel" for all VSELP options for the Quantar Conventional and Trunked Repeaters, and the VSELP option on the DIU3000, effective June 30, 2003.
Reminds me of the SONY Beta fiasco!
Gotta feel sorry for the taxpayers in the few VSELP cities!
There goes that Motorola marketing genius again. Wish I could hire that guy!

VSELP was essentially dead the day IMBE was chosen over it for the APCO-25 standard. It wasn't a decision of Motorola marketing, people just weren't going to buy it because it wasn't the standard. I don't think any significant amount of VSELP radios were sold after APCO-25 became reality. It is good for Motorola though...all they have to say is "Hey, who knew? It's not our fault! Now...just sign here on the dotted line & we'll sell you all new IMBE radios..."
Hardly the same as Betamax, that was a case of a superior product being squeezed out of the marketplace due to Sony keeping the technology proprietary, and everyone else in the world selling cheaper open VHS technology. In VSELP's case, it's an inferior technology, simply falling to the wayside, as IMBE likely will to AMBE, and beyond.

Thanks for the info.....
I have 5 with a "D" suffex and was wondering if they were 1meg or 512k, and if not APCO what it would cost to upgrade.
I had to wait for the owner of the shop to to get in to grab the 10 digit customer ID to call /\/\.
Whelp, 20 minutes on the phone with TechSupport and Product Group they tell me what I feared. FlatRate them to the depot to find out!
No info on old AS3's on file!

I'm just wondering.
I've used IMBE stuff before. What's the voice quality of VSELP like, compared to IMBE?
Seems to me that VSELP is more "secure" now, because the standard is IMBE, so the places that do have VSELP don't have to worry about people with the new digital scanner or anything.
Not quite encryption, but may as well be!
