Ok, another astro codeplug question....

Post by mancow »

I can read and write my astro saber III vhf with dos 9.5 all day long. When using CPS it read ok, but then it says, "radio and codeplug model # do not match". I can't program it. It just exits the programming session.

What the hell is up with that? If it was hacked at one point prior to my owning it wouldn't the numbers still have to match for it to work?

Do any of you have any suggestions?

Ok, I looked and everything matches what the radio says in test mode.

I shows:

Model # H04KDH9PW
Software Option H35
Serial # 465AZGXXXX (last 4 omitted but match)
Radio Software Version 03.33.00.0.0
DSP A05.01.04
Code Plug Verstion 0007
Prog Date 0404180033
Source RSS
Code Plug Size 8496
Flash Code F503018F00005

The radio shows the same thing and has the following as well:

EMC R02.12
KG1 DES-XL
KG2 Unknown DES-XL

any ideas?

No apparent reason why it wouldn't. What version CPS are you using? What OS are you using it on? Have you been able to read/write any other radios with it? Is this a Watchbuddy radio? Perhaps CPS doesn't like supposedly incompatible features (such as IMBE & software encryption) together in the same radio?

It's version 2 if I recall, does that sound right (don't have access to it right now to check). The computer is a 433 HP laptop running Windows 98.
I think you may be onto it. It does have software encryption I belive. I've never used the astro stuff so I don't recall. Maybe something is causing a conflict?

It may have come from Nick I don't know. I know I didn't buy it from him.

Some fool had a regular saber antenna on it when I got it. Thankfully Motorola was smart enough to put a hole in the threaded post to save the sma connector.

Try using CPS version 1.04. See what happens. Never used CPS2.0 since I never needed to upgrade. Anyway looks like the flash is an IMBE flash and the radio is a VSLEP. Host and DSP update should help.

Right, I didn't even look at the Host/DSP versions, but I don't know where the cut-off was between VSELP & IMBE. The Flashcode is definitely IMBE. Come to think of it, I recall Elroy posting that his early version Astro Sabers were incompatible with CPS, but I don't know what Host/DSP versions he had.

I have Elroy's VHF ASIII. It has Host R5.60.00 and DSP I 06.04.12. the flashcode is 58B008-031800-5. It went to the depot for flat rate repair last August. Prior to that Elroy could program it with both DOS and CPS. It is quite possible that the LAPD radios he has that are VSLEP cannot be programmed with CPS. I did a little searching around and this problem has been discussed before. There was no solution. It seems that the same conclusion( as in the other thread I found) can be made that the CPS "sees" the VSLEP IMBE mismatch and stops the programming process. HOST DSP upgrade should clear things up.
