Astro XTS xxxx and spectra question

Post by beaujo_fire »

Hello to the group,

I am new to this board, and have a question after reading a lot of the threads. One is, the radios sold by "nick" that are built by him, are they mostly 3600 baud Astro capable radios or are they a mix of 3.6k and 9.6k. The reason I ask, I am in Colorado where there is a statewide 9.6k astro system installed throughout a large part of the populated area of the state. I am wanting to purchase a XTS model or possibly a spectra that is fully P25 capable at 9.6k. However, most of what I have read about this particular system states that you cannot defeat the auto affiliate part of the RSS for these radios, thus the radios will auto affiliate and you will be kicked off the system and unable to monitor the system with the radio as if it was a scanner.

So I am wondering if most of these radio sold by Nick are for 3.6k systems and if some are the 9.6k type, how do you set up your radios to monitor the system and not affiliate.

Or is everything I have read and been told a bunch of hype.

Can anyone help me out here before I plunked down a lot of cash on a XTS radio.

Thanks,

Dave

HELLO FROM SUNNY SOUTH FLORIDA. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 9600 XTS FROM NICK. WHILE IT IS A WONDERFUL RADIO IT COULD ONLY DO 9600 SYSTEMS. IT COULDNT DO ANALOG TRUNKING. WHEN MY BUDDY WHO OWNS A 2-WAY SHOP WENT TO PROGRAM IT HE KEPT SAYING I'VE NEVER SEEN THESE SCREENS BEFORE. IT WOULD ONLY ALLOW APCO 25 TRUNKING. WHILE THATS COOL I STILL NEEDED ANALOG TRUNKING. WE HAD TO CHANGE THE FLASHCODE. WE USED 599108-5F4600-1. NOW THE RADIO IS GREAT. THERE IS NO 9600 SYSTEM IN FLORIDA SO WHO NEEDS IT ANYWAY. I DIDN'T KNOW A 9600 RADIO COULDN'T DO ANALOG TRUNKING. SOME MAY DISAGREE WITH ME BUT MY BUDDY HAS BEEN PROGRAMING THESE FOR YEARS AND COULDNT DO MINE. NEW FLASHCODE AND ALL IS GREAT NOW. GREAT RADIO 73 GARY N4KVE
